The Somatics Institute was created to teach massage therapists to integrate body-awareness skills and holistic awareness into their practices.

Somatics: The principles that define
the somatics paradigm - sensory based
learning and the organization of
movement through patterns - are
applied to traditional massage training
throughout the program.

Arts Oriented Education: Writing,
drawing, claywork, and other media
are used to engage all learning styles in
a body-based education experience.

Vision
- an educational environment that
fosters healing, growth and authentic
expression through the body
- an integrated program of remedial,
holistic, and somatics approach to
massage.
- theory and practice that are enhanced
by experiential learning.

Integrated Learning
Information in core subject areas are introduced sequentially throughout each course so that information can be absorbed and integrated through practical application.

Each course is part of an integrated curriculum. Skills learned in one class or workshop relates to information learned in all other training options offered by the Somatics Institute.

Personal and Professional Development
We believe that an integrated therapist practices the principles of healing in one's own life.

Leadership
We believe that massage therapists have an important contribution to make to the future of healthcare. As educators we believe it is our job to educate our students for a career in massage that values its past but prepares for its future.

Innovation
Our mandate is to develop best practice models in education for somatic practitoners. Our unique approach to integrating holistic and somatics models into traditional somatic practice increases the effectiveness of practice skills.

Excellence
Our educators are dedicated to creating the highest standards of practice in massage and holistic therapies. We are commited to working with each of our students to make that focus a reality.
