Meeting the World

The current world events give us a very real opportunity to apply somatics principles to a basic question of daily living – how to be in myself and be in the world.  I’ll be documenting what we are learning from weekly Zoom meetings on this page

Let’s start with you.

Here’s some basic grounding/self connection skills that you can use anywhere.  They move through a spectrum from yin/letting down through to yang/moving strongly into engagement.

1. Lowen Forward Bend

2. Standing Back Bend

3. Grounding with Your Back Against the Wall

4. Wall Push

Sensing in Dialogue

Now that you’ve got some grounding and organization of energetic movement through your body, here’s an example of how you can take that self-connection into interaction with another.

Of course, it’s helpful to crowd source what you’ve learned from this.  Here’s some experiences from student practice sessions.

And finally, here’s ways some of your fellow travellers are applying these practices in their lives.  Unfortunately, you can only hear them talking but I get to practice ‘noticing myself’ as I am attentive to them.  Got to be something useful in that!
